Congratulations, you’ve only got 6 months before your wedding!
Amazing how time flies when you’re having fun! Look at all you’ve accomplished with only 6 months before your wedding: You have already scouted and booked your venue(s), set your budget, finalized your guest list, sent your Save the Date cards, created your wedding website and updated your registries, booked your wedding vendors, reserved room blocks, shopped for and ordered your wedding gown, searched, tasted and ordered your wedding cake, finalized your wedding flowers, searched for stationary, taken your engagement photo, found your hair and make up artists and booked your trials, selected your bridesmaid’s dresses and partner’s attire, bought your wedding day accessories, made your wedding night accommodations, and booked your honeymoon.
Whew! You’ve been busy!
Next steps with 6 months before your wedding:
-
Finalize the menu and service details with your caterer.
Make sure your caterer is open to tweaking the menu when your RSVPs come in. That’s when you’ll find out all about your guest’s food allergies and dietary restrictions. You may want to put a note on your menu (if you’re including it with the RSVP) about food allergy accommodations or options available. Your caterer can help you with suggestions.
-
Order wedding stationary
Finalize the text for your invitations and place the order. You will want to order any additional announcements, place cards, menus, thank you notes, etc. at the same time to save on shipping or delivery costs.
-
Choose your bridesmaids’ accessories
Bridesmaid accessories include shoes, jewelry, hats, gloves, etc. Purchase as a gift to your bridesmaids or pass along the purchasing information. As with your partner’s attire, it’s increasingly normal for the bridesmaids to show a little personality. Your bridesmaids no longer need to all be exactly the same!
-
Choose groomsmen and ring bearer attire
To buy or to rent, that is the question. Last month you chose your partner’s attire. Did you choose a tuxedo or something or something a little offbeat? If you opted for the tux, make arrangements with a rental shop so they can order and schedule fittings. Send them the information necessary to purchase or rent. You can also include the information on your wedding website if you have an attendant only area.
Your ring bearer doesn’t need to match the groomsmen, either. Your flower girl and ring bearer attire is another place you can infuse your quirky personality into your wedding.
-
Purchase your wedding bands.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, or are they? My friend Kyle at Stones Throw Studio makes amazing bespoke jewelry. What could be better than a set of custom wedding rings made right here in Austin?
-
Check your gift registry.
You’ve probably found some new items over these last few months and added them to the registry on your wedding website. Take a few moments to click through your list and make sure it’s fresh and up to date. If items on your list have been discontinued, go ahead and remove them. If it’s something you really want, search around and see if you can find it somewhere else and post the link.
-
Search for favors.
What kind of favors will you have? Will you make them yourself or buy them? Cupcakes, personalized items, local salsa, local soap scented to match your theme, something your guests can grow? So many choices! Austin Wedding Day has some great ideas if you don’t know where to start.
