The Chinese call Peonies the King of flowers or the Flower Fairy and were named in honor of Paeon, the physician of the gods.
Peonies are herbaceous perennials. There are 30 species of Peonies, some of which are woody shrubs. The blooming varieties of Peonies produce large fragrant flowers, flowering in late Spring and early summer in shades of red, pink, coral, white, and yellow. Peonies are native to Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America.
Peonies symbolize bashfulness and compassion. They can also be used to express indignation or shame. The Peony symbolizes a happy life, happy marriage, good health and prosperity. Besides being gorgeous, that’s a good reason to use them at your wedding!
