Your wedding should reflect your personality as a couple. Family and friends know you individually and now is the time to introduce yourselves as a pair. So, how do you decide where to prioritize your budget? Your wedding planner will no doubt have a list of percentages commonly used to determine how much to allocate to each category. But, what’s the best way to make it about you? How can you welcome your loved ones while showing them the things in life that are important to you?

Incorporate personal elements

Decor items that reflect your personality are a great way to highlight and prioritize what matters most to you. Books, vinyl records, Legos, or postcards from your travels are all easy ways to put your personality at the forefront of your wedding decor. Flowers and candles can easily be incorporated with your favorite things to give everything a little something extra.

Prioritize the vendor categories that matter most to you

Foodies want the menu to be front and center. Therefore, boost your catering budget to prioritize the menu. If transporting your friends and family to a fantasy location is your vibe, prioritize your rentals, floral, and decor budget. And, if traveling is your passion, a destination wedding may be just the thing to start your marriage on the right path.

Let your planner know what means the most to you, but don’t be rude when meeting with vendors. For example, I’ve had a handful of brides tell me they don’t care about the flowers. As I’m sure you can imagine, it’s hard for me to get excited about your wedding when you just told me you don’t value what I do. These couples haven’t given me a reason to want to work with them. After all, my job is to help make couples’ dreams come true! A more respectful way to convey your wishes about your lower priority categories would be to simply say your budget is firm and you can’t go over it.

In conclusion, your wedding is your gift to the friends and family you have chosen to celebrate with you. Your planner can help you select vendors and give examples of what’s worked at other weddings like yours. It’s easy to create an inviting ambiance that embodies your priorities and personality by staying focused on what’s important to you.
