The Best Cocktails for a Winter Wedding

Choosing a signature cocktail for your reception is a fun way to add your own “flavor” to the reception experience. Your drink should be delicious, reflect the couple’s personal tastes, and fit in nicely with the wedding theme — and the wedding season.

What kind of drinks are perfect for a wedding in the winter months? Here are some of my favorites!

Boozy Hot Chocolate

You’ll need:

1 cup hot chocolate
3 oz mezcal
Cinnamon sticks for garnish
Your favorite toppings (whipped cream, chocolate shavings, vegan marshmallows)

There’s something so comforting about a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter evening. This cocktail will give your guests a warm, homey feeling throughout the evening, while that shot of mezcal will add a little kick that gets the party going!

Candy Cane Cocktail

You’ll need:

2 ounces strawberry vodka
4 dashes white crème de menthe
2 ½ ounces cranberry juice
1 crushed candy cane, for garnish

If you’re getting married in the winter, you might as well indulge a touch of the holiday spirit. This drink is fun, festive, and super delicious! Just shake up your juice, vodka, and creme de menthe with ice, then pour into a chilled martini glass.

Hot Buttered Rum

You’ll need:

1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted vegan butter
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
2/3 cup dark rum

This cocktail requires a little extra preparation, but it’s totally worth it. Melt down your butter in a saucepan and combine with all your spices, sugar, and water. Once the concoction is melted, mix in the rum. Voila — a quintessential winter drink that your guests will love.
