You’ve spent months or even years planning your outdoor wedding and it only makes sense you want everything to be perfect. Unfortunately, sometimes the weather can force a change of plans. Luckily we have three easy ways to incorporate a rain plan to make sure your rainy wedding day is just as perfect, even if the weather isn’t.

Plan for rain with a tent

Spring and summer months are well known for rain. After all, April showers bring May flowers. They’re also very popular months for outdoor weddings. The two can happily coexist with something as simple as a tent set up in advance. Even if it doesn’t rain on your wedding day, a tent can provide an auxiliary gathering area for cocktails or lawn games. And, it will keep the raindrops from falling on your head as you say your vows.

Select a Venue with Indoor Ceremony Options

One of the most important elements of your wedding ambiance is your chosen venue. It helps to set the tone for your overall aesthetic and contributes to the beautiful background in your photos. It may be your dream to have the ocean, a lake, or rock formation as your ceremony backdrop. However, rain ruining your perfect wedding day hair and makeup is more like a nightmare. Many venues have ample indoor space to set up your ceremony. All they need is a little time between the ceremony and reception to rearrange the furniture to create the gorgeous room of your dreams.

Embrace the Gray

Ask any photographer – overcast skies produce some of the best light. Just like the “Golden Hour”, overcast skies have a light all their own. It’s soft, not too bright, and perfect for your uber-romantic first look photos. Neither of you will be squinting from the sun and the rain may even bring the temperature down a few digits so you’re more comfortable in your dress. At night the raindrops catch light in a way that your photographer can enhance for simply magical photos.

Whatever you decide to do for your wedding day rain plan, keep your friends and family in the loop. If rain is in the forecast on your wedding day let them know that flats or chunky heels will be a better choice than stilettos, regardless of how great they look. Rain or shine, comfort is key for you and your wedding guests.
