Wedding cakes are an old tradition. But, you may be surprised to learn they weren’t always sweet and they weren’t always cakes. However, these days you rarely see a wedding without them. There are even reality competitions on who can make the biggest, prettiest, and best tasting wedding cake. So, if you’re vegan like I am and don’t like cake, what are you to do? Today I’m going to share some creative ways to incorporate vegan dessert alternatives into your wedding.

Vegan dessert bar

Offer a variety of vegan sweet desserts such as macarons, cupcakes, pie, and tarts, allowing guests to mix and match according to their tastes. Some, such as macarons, have the added benefit of being accidentally gluten free since they’re made with almond flour. You can fancy it up with some stylishly placed loose greenery and coordinating blooms to match your decor.

Vegan cheesecake tower

A beautiful tower of assorted vegan cheesecakes can be a delicious alternative to the traditional wedding cake. Made with plant-based ingredients like cashews, coconut cream, and almond milk, vegan cheesecake is a creamy and decadent option for all your friends and family. Set up as a tower, the shape mimics the shape of a traditional wedding cake. You can even choose to feed each other a mini cheesecake in lieu of a bite of wedding cake.

Vegan fruit tart

A tart crust filled with a sweet vegan cream and topped with fresh fruit is a colorful and refreshing vegan dessert alternative to a wedding cake. You can serve bite size tarts so your guests can taste each variety.

Vegan baklava

A popular dessert in mediterranean and middle eastern regions, baklava is a sweet, flaky pastry made with layers of phyllo dough filled with nuts, then soaked in a sweet syrup. Traditional baklava can be made with olive oil. The syrup is usually honey based. However, the vegan dessert version is made with sugar and water.

In conclusion, there are many tasty vegan alternatives to wedding cake. It’s your wedding, therefore your decision on what to serve instead of wedding cake. Choosing vegan dessert alternatives is an easy way to introduce your friends and family to some of the flavorful vegan food. Who knows? You may even inspire them to incorporate vegan meals into their life.
